Someone really needs to put a stop on my Groupon purchasing because I purchased a Groupon three days in a row! First, for a subscription for Pasadena Magazine (which costs $7.00 a pop normally, but the Groupon was only for $14 for a whole year!), then for Menchie Frozen Yogurt and another for a swanky restaurant red + white + bluezz in Pasadena. I’m addicted. Anyway, I purchased the Menchie Frozen Yogurt Groupon because it’s in my town and I have yet to give it a go. Frozen Yogurt is the latest craze, right on the heels of crepes and boba. They’re really a dime a dozen, but some will surprise me. Pinkberry, possibly the chain that started the trend, positively disgusts me.
Menchie is the type of establishment where they have a variety of flavors that rotate out every day or so. Some flavors are standard – vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream – while others are a bit exotic – “Mounds” (chocolate coconut), Angel Food Cake, Tart Cherry. They have a toppings bar where you can douse your frozen yogurt in candies, cookies, fruit, syrups and basically anything that will send you into a hypoglycemic fit.
In honor of passing the California Driver’s written exam, I decided to treat Mister J to Menchie Frozen Yogurt on Tuesday. Yay, for not having to spend two hours on the bus to get to work!

Total Cost: 12.38
Out of Pocket Cost: $6.00 (via Groupon)
Mister J paid the remaining difference of thirty-eight cents. What a guy.

Mister J’s concoction:
Frozen Yogurt: Cookies and Cream, Cake Batter
Toppings: Brownies, cookie dough, cheesecake, coconut flakes
Syrups: Caramel, Marshmallow
Verdict: “YUM. Are we going again? Do you have another coupon? We’re going again today.” – standing over me as I asked him to recall the toppings.

My Menchie Creation
Frozen Yogurt: Irish Mint + Angel Food Cake
Toppings: Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, candied cherries, brownies, cheesecake, cookie dough
Syrups: A smidgen of caramel, hot fudge and a smidgen of marshmallow
Verdict: Their candied cherries are gross, and I wish there had been more fruit (we went in the evening though). I don’t think I’d get Angel Food Cake again, but the Irish Mint was awesome. I’ll also not insist on getting a freshly hot made waffle bowl since my yogurt kind of melted in the bottom.
I think I liked other local frozen yogurt shop, Cherry On Top, slightly better only because I was bummed about the fruit being gone at Menchie. I bet I’d have a different opinion if we go again earlier in the day, though. Otherwise, I enjoyed Menchie a lot and definitely recommend them. Except after school hours. Then it’s chaos and a half.
