Review: Mashti Malone’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream

I am obsessed with rose flavored anything, and finding the perfect rose ice cream has been a recent quest of mine. The rose ice cream at POP! Champagne and Dessert Bar leaves must to be desired and did not set a positive tone for the beginning of my experimentation, but I was luckily saved by my sister, who took me to Mashti Malone’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream in Hollywood.

It’s not much on the outside, I know, but as I always say, the best food is often found in dingy strip malls!

All you have to do is take one taste to know that this is homemade ice cream using quality ingredients.
There were three rose related flavors for me to choose from:
Rosewater with Saffron and pistachios
Creamy rosewater
Ginger and rosewater

After a generous sample from the owner, I decided on a double scoop of the rosewater with saffron pistachios.

Saffron & Rose Ice Cream

I’m not typically one for pistachios, but the combo of saffron and rose added so much more depth than the other rose flavors (though they were tasty as well). The best part about this ice cream, and my sister and I both commented on this, is that Mashti Malone’s ice cream does not leave that incredibly heavy, I-just-swallowed-a-pound-of-cream feeling in your gut. It’s light while still bursting with flavor.

Other flavors include orange blossom, Turkish coffee, lavender, pomegranate sorbet and traditional flavors like cookies and cream and vanilla.

No preservative, no Eggs, no Refined Sugar, no Corn Syrup, no Trans Fat, no artificial Flavor, no Artificial color.
