Make Up Makeover

Last week I got a bee in my bonnet about finally taking charge of the horrific chaos that is my make up collection, and specifically what I keep in my fabulous vintage make up case.

out with the old, in with the new

This piece isn’t some awesome thrift store find but a piece of my family as it belonged to my great grandmother, who was born probably in the early 1880s – i.e. exactly 100 years before I was born. Obviously, I want to keep the case around for considerably more time and make sure it’s an active but respected piece.

I was also tired of old make up hanging about and odds and ends cluttered around the bathroom. So I gave my entire collection an overhaul, threw away the beyond help items and made a separate pile of make up that still has life (just not a life with me) to gift to my niece. I ended up giving her at least 10 eye shadows, glitter powder, unused hair decor, and other bits and bobs. A girl in her late teens who is just starting to experiment with personal style and make up was never more grateful.

Now my make up case is clean and organized, as are my two smaller organizers in the bathroom. It may sound hokey, but I do love the satisfaction after a good organizational spell.

How do you keep your make up in order? What do you keep it in? How often do you go through it?

  1. haha I’ve downsized a lot but I still have a legit makeup case (mine is from Sephora) AND a tackle box (from the very fashionable fishing section of Walmarts)…in addition to various bags and what not. I think the tackle box is most hilarious.

  2. I love cleaning out my make-up drawer too, because it all can get so yukky after a while. I keep my basics in a black plastic pencil tray in the center, then by eye colors around the outside of the tray. I have a separate drawer for lipsticks, liners, and glosses.

  3. I am trying to keep my eyes/lips stuff separated too and KEEP them that way – that’s the tricky part! It always looks so swell for about the first month or so and then eventually everything just goes to disorganization hell!
