What I Wore: Halloween

I hope everyone had a fabulous Halloween! I ended up going to two parties last night. I went as Minnie Mouse ~ and going as Minnie is rather special this year because twenty years ago, my first Halloween living in King of Prussia PA, I was also Minnie Mouse! I had less control over that costume, though, as I think my mom just picked it up randomly from the store. I remember being kind of put-out by it, ha ha. You can see me in the costume in this post.
Twenty years later, I want to be Minnie Mouse again but I want to be Minnie with a twist; Showgirl Minnie Mouse! Using the black sequin mouse ears I bought from Audrey Kitching as a starting point, I then added some peacock plumes my mom gave me from the peacocks who shed their feathers at the Los Angeles Arboretum, an ostrich feather given to me by a camper last year, a green sequin top & black gloves on loan from Kitten Teeth Vintage, a high-waist pencil skirt from Charlotte Russe and small-knit black fishnets with lace backseam. Unfortunately, I do not have any full body pictures, but it really does matter anyway because the Sunday Style Award officially goes to my friend Steffie Love for her innovative Halloween costume:

Birthday Cupcake Steffie Love!

Steffie went as a birthday cupcake! She made her own tulle skirt and topped it with her own colorful, handmade sprinkles. The winning piece goes to her birthday candle flame headband, though, which was made out of simple construction paper & tape. The best costumes are always the handmade ones!
You may have noticed a small cup of mystery green stuff in Steffie’s hand. That would be a Jell-O shot provided by our host from the first Halloween party:

Bowl-O-Jell-O!

The flavors made were sour watermelon, orange, cherry and rum-and-coke. I wasn’t very fond of the cherry, but that’s because I don’t like artificial cherry flavors. The watermelon was a bit too sour for me, like a liquid sour patch kid, but the orange and the rum-and-coke mixture were just dandy.

The highlight of the night (besides the good company and the delicious food, which I foolishly failed to take a picture of) was meeting my adorable new boyfriend, Bean (who is a Chihuahua).

Until next Halloween, this is Showgirl Minnie Mouse saying happy Sunday!

  1. I was worried you weren’t going to go out for Halloween because of your early tweets and you seem like such a Halloweenie girl to me! I’m so glad you had an amazing time… You are as cute as a button, your costume is perfect (although your original Minnie Mouse costume was pretty glorious as well… hee hee). Cupcake and Showgirl Minnie are truly a winning combination.

  2. Aww! You and your friend have amazing costumes!

And I couldn’t help but giggle at Bean. (My friend has a Chiuaua/Dachshund named MR. Bean. XD)
